Introduction
Shenae Grimes is poised to be the breakout star of the new CW Series 90210 which premiered on September 2nd. She could be the biggest Canadian import since Pamela Anderson. Okay, maybe not that big, but one to watch.
Career
Shenae first caught the attention of high school boys across North America in 2004 when she was cast as the "good girl" Darcy Edwards on Degrassi: The Next Generation. While Darcy was a church-going, purity ring-wearing, teetotaler, it seems unlikely that Shenae is the same way. In a 2007 TV interview, Degrassi stars Lauren Collins and Adamo Ruggiero were asked which Degrassi actor is the least like their character. In unison they replied: "Shenae."
Her next break came in 2005 when she played a teenage Shania Twain in the CBC's made for TV movie Shania: A Life in Eight Albums (2005). There's no truth to the rumor that the two stars were introduced to each other on the set: "Shenae, Shania. Shania, Shenae." Grimes was then in a 2006 Coffee Crisp commercial and had a recurring role on the Disney Channel series Naturally, Sadie as Arden Allcott.
For the 2007 holiday season, Shenae participated on a Christmas 7" record by the band Fucked Up entitled "David Christmas". The B-side song includes Shenae's talent along with musical stars and figures like Davey Havok, Scott Vogel, and Nelly Furtado. The record was released on December 15th, 2007 and included Grimes' holiday wish of "Merry Fucking Whatever!" to Toronto.
She next starred in two made for TV movies. First in True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet (2008) with JoJo and then in Picture This (2008) along side Ashley Tisdale and her Degrassi: The Next Generation co-star Lauren Collins which premiered on ABC Family, July 13, 2008.
In the Fall of 2008 Shenae began her role on the CW's revamped 90210 (along with AnnaLynne McCord and Jessica Stroup). She plays the character Annie Mills, who is modeled after the character of Brenda Walsh, who moves to Beverly Hills from Kansas in high school just like Brenda moved from Minnesota.
Shenae's acting idol is Natalie Portman.
