Introduction
Raquel Welch is a Golden Globe-winning American actress who reached fame during the 1960s. She was and is regarded as a sex symbol by many, because she is both sexy, and can be used to stop traffic.
Life story
Welch was born in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest of three kids born to Armando Carlos Tejada Urquizo and Josephine Sarah Hall. Fortunately, Raquel’s father did not give her as many names as himself, or else her monogrammed sweaters would have been very pricey.
In 1942, the Tejadas moved to San Diego, where Welch took dancing lessons and won beauty pageants. Among her titles were "Miss Photogenic," "Miss La Jolla," "Miss Contour," and "Miss San Diego." For many adolescent males, she had other titles, but those are not suitable to print.
After graduating high school, Raquel entered San Diego State University on a theater arts scholarship, and married her high school sweetheart, James Welch. She became a weather forecaster at KFMB, a local San Diego station, which basically proves that you can have any degree and be just as capable of predicting the weather as a meteorologist.
Because of her heavy schedule, she decided to leave college. Her marriage broke up and she moved with her two children to Dallas, Texas, where she modeled for Nieman Marcus and worked as a cocktail hostess. But her hotness would prove too much for North Texas, and she would have to cool off in California.
She found a place in L.A. and started and started making the rounds of the movie studios. She was cast in bit parts, but it was her starring turn in Hammer Studios’ remake of One Million Years B.C. that got her noticed. Yes, it’s that picture of her. Yes, the one in the cavewoman bikini, as cavewomen were prone to wear. The publicity still became a bestselling poster and Playboy called her the “Most Desired Woman” of the 1970s. She handily beat Gloria Steinem, who would not pose in a fur cavewoman bikini.
Having done occasional work in television, including guest roles in Seinfeld, 8 Simple Rules, Spin City and Friends, she has reportedly been invited to play Eva Longoria’s sexy Aunt on Desperate Housewives. This is exciting, as producers have not explained just how far removed her aunt-hood is, thereby leaving open the possibility of a legal sexual encounter with Eva’s character.
As a businesswoman Welch has experienced great success with her signature line of wigs. She also began a jewelry and skincare line although neither of those ventures compared to the success of her wig collection. In fact, she’s pretty much got the wig business on lock. A federal anti trust investigation is ongoing.
In January 2007 she was revealed as the newest face of MAC Cosmetics Beauty Icon series. Her line features several limited edition makeup shades in glossy black and tiger print packaging. No cavewoman fur prints have been planned as of yet.
