Mara hails from Canada, but is now a full-fledged, California resident. She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (under the Princess Grace Scholarship), the York University in Toronto, and under many prestigious acting coaches. She is an active member of The Road Theatre and has also performed in regional theaters around North America and on television in Canada. She is skilled in voice overs and can do many great cartoon voices.
Film: Mara just wrapped on both PSYCHOSOMATIKA with Jeff Dylan Graham and Peter Stickles (“Shortbus”) and DEAD FRIDAY (directed by Dennis DeVine). She is currently shooting DEADER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY (based on the award-winning sort featured on George Romero's "Diary of the Dead" DVD, which she also starred in). On the horizon is DEATH VALLEY with Kern Saxton and Destin Pfaff. Last summer, she worked on the action comedy, LADY MAGDALENE’S, starring Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek). She also portrayed “Faith” in the horror film DARKWORLD directed by David Palmieri (“The O.C.”, “CSI”), starring Sean Wing and Chrissy May. (see NEWS page for details). She was in the campy VAMPIRES AT MIDNIGHT, directed by Ford Austin ("Saturday Night Live") and Rob Walker ("Rules of Engagement"), the feature film BLOOD LEGEND starring Jeff Dylan Graham ("Selena"), and made a cameo in PIECES OF EIGHT, directed by Adam Carl ("Cheers", "Family Ties", "The King of Queens") where she played Ophelia. Mara has also been in SHOCK, SLAUGHTERHOUSE PHI & IN THE DARK.
Theatre: Mara is currently on stage with the world premiere play: THE FRIENDLY HOUR, at The Road Theatre. Last summer, she was also in the world premiere of BITCH, at The Bootleg Theatre. Prior to that, she finished a full run of CUTS, at The Road Theatre, where she is also a company member. She also originated the role of Candace, the “sweet-faced kewpie serving up a calming charm" (Personality) in BEAUTY, BRAINS AND PERSONALITY at The Space Theater. At The Matrix Theatre she was in BUS STOP playing the role of Cherie. At Second City (in Los Angeles) she played numerous roles in both COMEDY D'LITE and ENJOY THE SHOW. She again took on a slew of characters in A MESS OF PLAYS - DURANG at the El Portal Theatre. She premiered the lead role in PARK with Stan Harrington ("The Practice") at the Stella Adler Theatre.
