Introduction
Kathie who? Kelly Ripa has charmed the pants off of morning talk show viewers so much that some may forget she wasn't the first peppy co-host to gab with Regis Philbin. Ripa, who had a successful career as a soap opera actress on All My Children, worked two jobs as soap actress and host in 2001, when Ripa officially became the hottest thing on TV at 9 a.m., replacing the aging, and annoying Kathie Lee. She would later leave the world of soap operas to focus more on Live with Regis and Kelly.
Life Story
Ripa got her start in show business by appearing in high school plays and local theater productions. The former high school cheerleader was approached by a talent manager and she was quickly whisked away to New York to appear on All My Children as Hayley Vaughn Santos. Soon after, she was asked to fill in for Kathie Lee on the morning show, and when Kathie Lee decided to retire from morning TV, Ripa gladly took her place.
In 2003, the energetic Ripa got even more work, starring with her friend Faith Ford on sit-com Hope and Faith. The show lasted three years, and continues to find success in reruns. Ripa is a good sport about her career, and enjoys lampooning herself on Saturday Night Live and appeared as her self on an episode of The Family Guy. She will appear next with Jennifer Love Hewitt in the movie Delgo.
