Life Story
Jordin Sparks was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Jodi Wiedmann and Phillippi Sparks. Her mom is the sister of a model, and her dad is a former cornerback for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. Sparks attended high school for a while, but switched to homeschooling after her junior year to focus on her singing career. Her career started off slowly in 2004. She made appearances on America's Most Talented Kids (where she assuredly turned down the advances of judge Bobbe' J) and competed in a Christian music competition Music in the Rockies. Sparks also appeared in numerous local stage productions and toured with Christian singer Michael W. Smith. In 2006 Sparks auditioned for American Idol in Los Angeles, but was not invited to the second round.
After her failed first attempt at American Idol, Sparks returned home to Arizona where she won a local Arizona Idol competition. With that victory came a second audition for American Idol and redemption. Her second audition was a success, and Sparks was invited to continue. She took the competition by storm and after fourteen weeks of competition, Sparks beat the funny looking guy who beat boxed. Following her victory, Sparks toured with her fellow Idol competitors and released several singles.
In August of 2007, Sparks signed with Jive Records and released her first single, "Tattoo." On November 20, 2007, her debut album dropped, and peaked out at #10 on the charts.
