Life Story

So what if she rarely smiles in her films. The gorgeous star of such hits as A Beautiful Mind and The Hulk tends to keep her acting serious. Her career began when a friend of the family suggested she try modeling, and at the age of ten, she was seen in newspaper and magazine ads across the country. Eventually, she fell into the world of acting with small roles in films such as Once Upon a Time in a America. She got her first starring role in the cult classic Labyrinth, where she stars with the villainous David Bowie.

As Connelly grew up, filmmakers took notice of her amazing body, and in the 1990 Dennis Hopper directed film Hot Spot, Connelly filmed her first topless scene. And while she kept her clothes on later that year for the teen comedy Career Opportunities, that film does contain the best mechanical horse scene of all time. The role of Veronica in the film Heathers, was written with Connelly in mind, but after she turned it down, it went to Winona Ryder. She also starred in The Rocketeer a year later.

Connelly wanted to leave her sexpot image behind, and during the mid to late 90s, she showed off here acting ability in small independent films. By 1998 she was getting recognized more for her talent, than her beauty as she stared in the critically acclaimed Dark City and the nightmarish Requiem for a Dream in 2000. In 2001, Connelly won an Academy Award for best actress for her role in A Beautiful Mind. In 2007, she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Blood Diamond, and will appear next year in He's Just Not That Into You with Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson. It was recently announced that she will also star in the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
