Introduction

Jacinda Barrett was an Australian model that first came to wide public attention on MTV’s The Real World: London, in 1995. Deciding to attempt to take the amateur drama of reality television into the professional realm, Barrett attended the British American Drama Academy, in England, following her time on the show. While starring on The Real World, Barrett decided to keep things “in the family” and dated the star of another MTV show, Singled Out’s Chris Hardwick. She was also named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World,” during this same era (1997).

Life story

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, to an airport firefighter father, Barrett developed a taste for acting early. She studied drama at Kenmore State High School, in her native Brisbane. After high school, she left Australia and began modeling in Europe at the age of seventeen. She was signed by the Storm agency, the same agency which signed Elle Macpherson and Josie Maran.

Barrett soon tired of modeling and wanted to pursue acting. Barrett went on to then join MTV’s The Real World: London in 1995, and got her first film role in 1997’s Campfire Tales. Like many models turn actresses, Barrett’s career has languished in mediocrity. Her film credits include Poseidon (2006), Ripley Under Ground (2005), Urban Legends: The Final Cut (2000), and The Last Kiss (2006). While certainly not blowing up the box office, Barrett has emerged better off than many of her Real World castmates, who seemed doomed to reality show hell for the remainder of their careers (with the odd degrading “reunion” special being the highpoint of this existence).

Before taking a break to have a baby, she had two other films released in 2006: The Namesake (2006) and School for Scoundrels (2006).

Barrett has bounced back from her failed relationship with Chris Hardwick, and in December, 2004 married the love of her life, Gabriel Macht. The couple had a baby girl, Satine Anais Geraldine Macht, on August 20th, 2007, in Los Angeles.
