Life Story
Deschanel was born in Los Angeles to a family with show biz in it's blood. Her father is an Academy Award-nominated cinematographer, and her mom is an actress who was on the show Twin Peaks and in the movie The Right Stuff. Deschanel is of French heritage, and used to spend her summers in Lyon, France. After high school, Deschanel left the City of Angels to study acting at Boston University. Though she made her film debut in 1994's It Could Happen to You, Deschanel didn't act on the screen again until 2000.
In 2000, Deschanel made an appearance in the short film It's a Shame About Ray. In 2002, Deschanel made guest appearances on Law & Order: Special Victim's Unit and Providence. Her next big role would be in 2003's Cold Mountain, which co-starred Jude Law and Nicole Kidman. Deschanel made a guest appearance on Crossing Jordan in 2004, and also had a bit part as a receptionist in Spider Man 2. Interview Magazine slated Deschanel as an actress to watch in 2004, and they were correct in doing so. Deschanel struck career gold in 2005 when she was cast in the starring role on the smash hit Bones, where she plays forensic investigator Temperance Brennan. The role is based on a real life forensic investigator. Straying from the small screen, Deschanel co-starred in the 2006 basketball epic Glory Road alongside Josh Lucas.
Deschanel is a dedicated vegan, and currently splits her time between New York City and Los Angeles.
