Dana Delany is probably still best known for her role on the classic TV series China Beach, but is also now famous for joining the cast of the huge TV hit Desperate Housewives. Born in New York City and raised in Connecticut, Dana started her acting career in New York, on stage and in TV soaps in the early 1980's.

After moving to Los Angeles, Dana got a few small movie roles and guest spots on TV shows such as Moonlighting and Magnum PI

China Beach

In 1988, Dana got the role of Colleen McMurphy in the TV series China Beach which lasted until 1991. The powerful series explored the Vietnam war from the point of view of the women involved, and had an impressive cast that went on to do many notable roles. Dana's portrayal of McMurphy won her two Emmy's and got her a lot of attention, which she leveraged to gain roles in TV movies and feature film.

Movies

After China Beach, Dana tended to be drawn to scripts that offered challenging or controversial parts, such as Tombstone, For Hope, The Margaret Sanger Story, Light Sleeper, Exit to Eden, and Wild Palms.
But even though Tombstone and For Hope did well, and Exit to Eden raised eyebrows because of the story involving BDSM, in general her work was low profile, and many felt her career was on the wane.
However, during this time, Dana also started doing voice acting as Lois Lane for Warner Brothers's new Superman cartoons.

In 2001, Dana took on a new TV series Pasadena, a prime time soap about a rich family involved in dark but eccentric intrigue. It was quickly cancelled. But Dana continued with TV movies and guest spots, including a powerful Family Law which Proctor & Gamble refused to sponsor.
In 2002, Dana turned down an offer to be on a new series Desperate Housewives, but instead joined Presidio Med, which involved some of the production team from China Beach. But this also didn't last a full season.

Dana continued to work though, in indie films such as The Outfitters and Spin, and in TV movies like Baby For Sale and A Time To Remember.
She also took on additional guest star roles on shows like Battlestar Galactica and Law and Order: SVU. And, again, though some people viewed her career as diminished, others called her the "busiest woman in Hollywood".

In 2006 Dana joined the cast of another new series, Kidnapped. Yet again the series was short-lived. But Dana continued shooting more indie films such as Drunkboat, Multiple Sarcasms, A Beautiful Life, Route 30, and Camp Hope.
Around this time, Dana started also mentioning that she was ready to get married, and was beginning a search for a husband. This became a common subject in her interviews.

In mid-2007, she was asked again to join Desperate Housewives and she accepted. Some critics have credited her as having helped bring the show back to life.

Still bringing up the subject of marriage, Dana has said she is hoping that Desperate Housewives might improve her luck in the way it apparently has for other cast members.

Dana supports several causes , but mainly focuses on the Scleroderma Research Foundation which was founded by her late friend Sharon Monsky (and who did a cameo in For Hope).
