Mitchell was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. Her upringing was of a hippy nature. Her mother was a former model and a fashion designer, and her father was a filmmaker. She was named after the lover of the Hindu God, Lord Krishna. Mitchell made her acting debut at the age of 21, when she made a six episode guest spot on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. She bounced around on Australian TV for a while until in 2000, the world got it's introduction to her. She was cast in the Sci-Fi movie Pitch Dark, where she played a pilot opposite Vin Diesel. In 2002, Mitchell hit the big screen again, co-starring with Colin Farrel and Keifer Sutherland in the thriller Phone Booth.
2004 was a career year for Mitchell. She played the embattled wife of Johnny Depp in the poignant Finding Neverland, acted alongside living legend Denzel Washington in Man on Fire, and was personally given a role in Melinda and Melinda by comic genius Woody Allen. Following her blockbuster year, Mitchell shifted gears and played a woman with Asperger's Syndrome in the well received Mozart and the Whale. In 2006, she starred in the film adaptation of the popular video game Silent Hill. 2007 was a relatively quiet year for Mitchell, but she is set to star in five different movies in 2008. In her free time, Mitchell enjoys yoga and vegetarian food.
