Editing FAQs

1. How do I edit a page?

Editing most Chickipedia pages is easy. Simply click on the "edit this page" tab at the top of a Chickipedia page (or on a section-edit link). This will bring you to a new page with boxes containing the editable text of the original page.

When you are finished with an edit, you should write a short edit summary in the small field below the edit-box. You may use shorthand to describe your changes, as described in the legend, and when you see the difference between the page with your edits and the previous version of the page by pressing the "Show changes" button. If you're satisfied with what you see, be bold and press the "Save page" button. Your changes will immediately be visible to all Chickipedia users.

2. How do I start a new page?

There are two methods for starting a new page:

The first method is that you type a girl’s name into our search box at the top of every page on the site. If an article about her doesn’t exist, you’ll see this message:

There is no page titled "scarlett johanssen". You can create this page.

Click on the “create this page” link to get her going.

The other way is to click the big-ass “Add New Chick” tab, which will take you to a page where you can enter her name into a text box and click the “Add or edit” button

If an article of the girl exists, you’ll be taken to the form where you can edit her information. If the article doesn’t exist, you’ll be taken to the form where you can create her page.

3. How do I redirect pages?

A redirect is a page with no content other than:

  1. REDIRECT pagename

Where pagename is the article or page to redirect to.

If the redirect target is an existing page in the same project, going to the redirect page by means of a link, the URL, or the Go button, results in the redirect target page, just like following the link. However, the browser shows the URL of the redirect page, and the target page shows a small notice below the top title to indicate you arrived here indirectly.

For example, if somebody goes to Help:Redirection, then they will end up at this page instead, and the top of the page will look like:

Help:Redirect

From Chickipedia

(Redirected from Help:Redirection)

To get the canonical URL of the target page in your browser's address bar, click the article tab.

If the redirect target is a non-existing page in the same project, or to a page in another project, one simply arrives at the redirect page.

When a page called for inclusion is a redirect page, the redirect target is included instead, with the same parameters, without any redirect message. A double redirect does not work

4. How do I use talk pages?

Talk pages are used to discuss how to improve articles. There are two types of discussion pages, more commonly called talk pages — standard talk pages, which are used to discuss an article, a template, a category, etc., and user talk pages, which are used to communicate with other users or leave them messages. Every page has an associated talk page, except pages in the Special: namespace. If there has never been any text on a talk page, the link to the talk page from the article, category, etc., will be red. You can still discuss the page — you will just be the first person to edit the respective talk page.

Article talk pages are provided for discussion of the content of articles and the views of reliable published sources. They should not be used by editors as platforms for their personal views.

To access a talk page look for a link at the top of the page labeled discuss. The name of a standard talk page is "Talk:" plus the article's title. For example, the talk page of the article GracePark is Talk:GracePark. For a page name that has a prefix, "talk" is added to the prefix before the colon. For example, the talk page associated with the user page User:Drew23 is User talk:Drew23.

After someone else edits your user talk page, the alert "You have new messages (last change)" is automatically displayed on all pages you view, until you view your user talk page, if you have a registered account.

On a talk page, "this page" usually refers to the main page (i.e. the page the talk page is associated with). If the talk page itself is referred to, write "this talk page".

When debating the name of the page or discussing merging it with another page, always mention the current page name. Otherwise after renaming (moving) a page, references to "this page name" become ambiguous.

The "Post a comment" feature (the small "+" sign on a separate tab, at the top of a talk page) allows you to start a new section without needing to edit the whole page. The section header becomes the edit summary at the time you save the page, so there is no edit summary displayed when you use this feature.

The practice of posting similar messages to more than a few users' talk pages, for example to solicit a certain action, is very strongly discouraged.

6. How do I revert a page to an earlier version?

7. How do I delete pages?

Please see the Requesting Moderation section for more details on how to request content removal by a moderator.

8. How do I import articles?

Is there an article you have written and would like to import into Chickipedia? The most obvious thing to do is to copy and paste content. Note, however, that most formatting will not be preserved. Also note that single linebreaks are ignored by Chickipedia, so if your source uses them, you will get very long lines. You can put
at the end of every line or double all line breaks to replace them with full paragraphs. If you use Microsoft Word, note that in the replace feature ^p is the code for a linebreak, so you can replace ^p with
^p or ^p^p. Editors that support regular expressions may require a command like s/\n/
\n/gs or s/\n/\n\n/gs, respectively. Also note that Word uses so-called "smart quotes" (that look “like this”) which may be inadvertently included in your article. These quotes are generally frowned upon and do not display correctly in all browsers. One way of removing them is copying your text into another word processor like Notepad before pasting into Chickipedia.
